Carbon fiber is known for its light weight, high strength, and attractive texture. However, its bare surface can easily suffer from UV degradation, scratches, or high temperature discoloration. To maintain both aesthetics and durability, applying a specialized paint system that resists heat, UV rays, and scratches is essential.

Step 1: Surface Polishing and Cleaning

Before painting, polish the carbon fiber surface with 800–1200 grit sandpaper to remove oil, dust, and imperfections. Wipe clean with a lint-free cloth and blow off remaining particles with compressed air. A smooth and clean base ensures better paint adhesion and finish quality.

Step 2: Apply the First Layer of Clear Varnish

Spray a thin, even coat of high-temperature and UV-resistant clear varnish. Maintain a distance of about 15–20 cm between the spray gun and the surface. Allow the layer to level naturally for 5–10 minutes before baking.

Step 3: First Baking Process

Bake the coated piece in an oven at around 60°C for about 120 minutes. This curing step hardens the varnish and improves adhesion and durability. Allow the part to cool down before proceeding to the next layer.

Step 4: Apply the Second Layer for Gloss and Smoothness

The second spray enhances the gloss, leveling, and protective strength. You can add UV absorbers or anti-scratch agents to the varnish for extra performance. Apply evenly, avoiding runs or thick spots.

Step 5: Optional Third Layer for Premium Finish

If higher gloss or stronger protection is needed, apply a third varnish coat. Make sure each layer is fully cured before adding the next one to prevent cracking or dulling.

Step 6: Final Curing and Inspection

After all spraying steps, bake the piece again at 60–70°C for 90–120 minutes. Once cooled, inspect the surface for smoothness, gloss, and adhesion. A mirror-like finish without dust or orange peel indicates a successful process.

Maintenance Tips

  1. Keep the spray area clean and dust-free.
  2. Stir the paint well before use.
  3. Avoid mixing different paint brands.
  4. Do not expose the newly painted surface to direct sunlight for 48 hours.
  5. Apply protective wax or coating regularly to maintain the shine and durability.
