Metallic mirror-finish silver and electro-gold coatings represent two distinct classes of optical-functional coatings in industrial finishing. A mirror silver finish relies on high-reflective metallic flakes aligned in a smooth coating matrix, sealed with low-haze clearcoat to achieve specular-dominant reflection. The electro-gold effect, by contrast, is obtained via layered optical design—using a reflective layer plus a transparent spectral filtering gold layer, forming warm metallic brilliance with stable Lab* chroma. Their failure modes, optical metrics (ISO 2813, CIE colorimetry), and engineering replication strategies are compared, revealing that industrial success depends not on chromatic imitation but on controllable optical structure, stability under aging, and manufacturability in mass production.
